Async Page generation in CarouselPage

I was wondering if there is a way to have the CarouselPage generate its pages async. I'm using MVVM and my CarouselPage ViewModel makes an async call to get all the items needed to generate its pages. Unfortunately after the async call the pages are not generated. I could generate the ViewModel before hand and pass it into the page but I'm using Injection to have each page handle its ViewModel assignment. Since the ItemSource is empty on initialization the pages never get generated. Is it possible to trigger a regeneration of the pages after my async call completes?
