Custom Date Renderer

Hi Guys

Trying to write a custom renderer for Android.Widget.DatePicker?
it seems to all compile but the datepicker doesnt show?
is this locked down atm for android?

basically i have a custom popup/control that i want the datepicker in, i have it working for iOS?

currently basing it off of
public class MyDatePickerRenderer : ViewRenderer<MyDatePicker, Android.Widget.DatePicker>

has anyone got this working that would be willing to share a sample?
