I am writing an app for iOS and Android, using Xamarin Forms. The app will be used on a student bar crawl. I want to allow users of the app to see which bars the other users are in. As such, I plan to use location services to estimate the bar a user is in.
Obviously, it would be a bit of a pain if the users had to keep the app open. I therefore want to use location services at regular intervals to get a user's location, then run a procedure to estimate the bar the user is most likely in (or whether they are in transit between bars), and then update this information in the Parse data cloud. This all needs to be run in the background?
Does anybody have any ideas for the best way to implement this background functionality in a Xamarin.Forms application, on both Android and iOS?
